Partner Dax Hansen recently spoke on behalf of the CTIA-The Wireless Association at the Federal Trade Commission's town hall meeting, Pay on the Go: Consumers and Contactless Payments. His presentation, "Wireless and Contactless Payments," focused on the benefits the wireless industry provides to contactless payments and other electronic financial services, e-commerce and mobile marketing. Advantages of mobile that Hansen highlighted include the ability to know the customer and the customer's location, as well as reliable and secure networks and robust user interfaces.
The town hall meeting, held in Seattle on July 24, 2008, was held to explore the growth of contactless payment systems and their implications for consumer protection policy.
The meeting brought together industry members, technologists, scholars, regulators, and consumer advocates to explore the current state of the art for contactless payment systems, as well as the extent to which these payments are being deployed domestically and around the world, and the potential benefits and risks to consumers of its use.
